Bishop Gore pupils from year 9 and year 11 went on a guided tour with Swansea born artist David Marchant of site specific art in and around the city of Swansea.

Art Across the City 2013 is an exhibition of contemporary public art located across the City of Swansea. Commissioned and curated by Locws International, the exhibition presents artwork of a diverse selection of Internal and UK-based artists.

Despite the wet weather conditions, the pupils were greatly inspired by Jacob Dahlgren’s abstract placards at the LC2 Amphitheatre. This work was previously a procession through the city.  They also enjoyed Juneau Project’s bird sculptures placed high in the trees in Singleton Park and Matthew Houlding’s large modernist monument which sits in front of the Guild Hall was most influential.

There will be follow up workshops run by David Marchant on the 9th and 12th of November at the school, where pupils will work in design teams to design and make a piece of site specific art.

This activity helps students develop essential skills as well as their artistic capability. The pupils will be working together in teams, problem solving and developing numeracy and literacy skills through measuring, marking and constructing materials and evaluation tasks.
