Bishop Gore is an inclusive school. This means the school values all students and staff. The school recognises the differences between students and has developed inclusive practices to teaching and learning which respect and build on those differences. All pupils have access to the full range of National Curriculum subjects. Pupils in Years 7 and 8 who experience difficulties in their learning are educated in small groups called ‘Supported Learning Groups’. These pupils have the same lessons but are taught in smaller classes. Other pupils requiring assistance with learning receive help either on an individual basis for short periods of time, or they are supported in their classes be Learning Support Assistants. Bishop Gore also has a Specialist Teaching Facility for children with moderate to severe learning difficulties. This is a fully integrated part of school and offers the full range of subjects either in the Resources base or in mainstream classes dependent on individual need.

Treat disabled pupils and parent or carers less favourably for a reason relating to disability.

Fail to take ‘reasonable steps’ to ensure that disabled pupils or prospective pupils are not placed at a substantial disadvantage compared to their non-disabled peers.

English as an Additional Language / Saesneg fel Iaith Ychwanegol

Specialist teachers provide support to targeted EAL pupils in Years 7 – 11 both in class and through individual conferencing. The purpose is to further improve language development and ensure achievement within the Nation Curriculum. Our EMLAS team provides support for pupils requiring it, throughout their school career.
