Welcome
The Specialist Teaching Facility (STF) Unit at Bishop Gore provides a stimulating education programme for twenty pupils with moderate to severe learning difficulties. The Unit comprises two classes, one working at Key Stage 3 and the other at Key Stage 4, supported by two teachers and five learning support assistants. The pupils are regarded as full members of the school community and are treated as such, with the same high expectations of attitude and behaviour placed upon them. Learning within the Unit is highly personalised and each pupil has an individual timetable showing Unit based and mainstream lessons. Pupils are integrated into certain mainstream classes where appropriate and, in addition, are taught by some mainstream subject teachers as an STF group. Furthermore, in order to provide a broad and experiential learning environment, pupils undertake many extra-curricular activities and events throughout the academic year. Pupils attend regular gymnastics sessions and weekly cookery classes in order to build essential life skills. Work experience is undertaken at a variety of placements at KS4 in order to develop valuable employment related skills. Bishop Gore sets high standards and emphasis when it comes to inclusion and firmly believes that an effective school is an inclusive one. The dynamic work within the STF exemplifies this inclusion.
